Install, filter reference, and what to do when something looks wrong.

Installing

The extension is distributed directly rather than through the Chrome Web Store, so installation is one extra step. It takes about a minute and you only do it once.

  1. Download the zip and unzip it somewhere you will keep it. Chrome loads the extension from this folder every time it starts — if you delete the folder, the extension disappears.
  2. Open chrome://extensions.
  3. Turn on Developer mode using the toggle at the top right.
  4. Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder — the one containing manifest.json.
  5. Click the puzzle-piece icon in your toolbar and pin the extension.
  6. Click the extension icon and paste your activation key.

Chrome may show a "Disable developer mode extensions" prompt on startup. Dismissing it is safe — the extension keeps working.

Running an extraction

  1. Search Google Maps as you normally would, so businesses appear in the left-hand list.
  2. Set your filters in the panel at the top right.
  3. Pick an extraction depth (see below).
  4. Click Start, then Export CSV when it finishes.

Results save continuously, so a refresh or a crash mid-run loses nothing. Stop halts the run and keeps what it has. Clear wipes the stored set — do that between unrelated searches, or the results merge.

Extraction depth

Smart hybrid

Reads the list, then opens only the listings missing a phone or website. The default, and the right choice most of the time.

Deep

Opens every listing. Slower — about three seconds each — but the only mode that gets full addresses, postcodes and seven-day opening hours, because list cards never contain them.

List only

No listing visits at all. Fastest, but addresses are partial and the unclaimed filter cannot work.

Filter reference

Filters are applied while results are collected, not afterwards. That matters: a rejected business is never opened, so it costs no time and none of your daily allowance.

Two filters need a listing visit and therefore do not work in List-only mode: Unclaimed listings and Has an email. A location filter is also more accurate with visits, because a results card usually shows only a street, not the town.

Likely new is an estimate. Google Maps publishes no opening date anywhere, so this filter uses a low review count or Google's own New badge. Treat it as a strong hint, not a fact.

Exclude chains drops any business sharing a website domain or an exact name with more than N others in your results. Set N to 1 to keep only genuinely independent businesses.

Stop after N caps a run at N businesses that passed your filters. Scrolling and listing visits both stop early, so a small cap really is fast.

Your daily allowance

A listing counts once, on the day you first keep it. Specifically:

Limits reset at midnight UTC. The panel shows what you have left.

Email lookup

Google Maps never exposes email addresses. If you want them, enable email lookup from the extension popup and grant website access. The extension then visits each business's own site — the homepage, /contact, /contact-us and /about — and pulls contact addresses.

Requests are sent without cookies, so a site you are signed in to cannot return your own account details instead of the business's. You can also add your own addresses to a blocklist in the popup, which strips them from every export.

Troubleshooting

The panel does not appear
It only mounts on a Google Maps search page with a results list. Search for something first. If it still does not appear, reload the tab.
Far fewer results than expected
Google caps a single search at roughly 120 results and throttles when you have been busy. The same search can return 76 one minute and 14 the next. Wait a few minutes, or split the area into narrower searches and let the extension merge them.
"Google is showing a verification challenge"
You have been extracting hard enough that Google wants a CAPTCHA. The extension stops rather than pushing through. Wait several minutes before resuming, and consider Smart hybrid instead of Deep.
"Enter your activation key to start"
Click the extension icon in the toolbar and paste the key from your email.
"This key is already active on N devices"
Open the popup on the machine you no longer use and click Deactivate this device, or manage devices from your account page.
Addresses are blank or partial
Only Deep mode gets full addresses. Results-list cards genuinely do not contain them.
